Isla Margarita - Island Activities & Attractions
Beyond the sleepy fishing village of El Yaque, the Island of Margarita offers adventure and
exploration.
Margarita is actually two islands connected by a narrow strip of land or isthmus that forms
the north side of the lagoon called La Restinga – a National Park. Along the north side is
Guardia Bay Beach, known for its many miles of beach and restaurants. You can journey through
winding canals and lagoons on wooden boat tours throughout these waters. You will see schools
of colorful fish and a variety of shore birds including pelicans wading for their meals.
Organized tours are available to take you through the small towns and villages throughout Margarita.
Spanish churches and forts, colonial castles, beautiful beaches and tropical valleys dot the
countryside.
For a change of pace, visit Los Roques National Park for snorkeling and swimming and don’t forget
to experience the speed sailing along the beach at Coche Island – a day trip from El Yaque by boat.
